People in Dover district are being warned about a a scam involving bogus calls about council tax.
The council has been informed that a man has called some people during the evening stating that they have a credit on their accounts and are entitled to a refund.
They are then asked to give their bank account details for the credit to be awarded, and told that if they fail to do so the money will be given to a charity.
The district council is stressing that this is not an official council call and it is not the way it conducts any refunds or credits to customers.
Police have been informed, and details have also been circulated to Neighbourhood Watch schemes, and Kent County Council Trading Standards.
Anyone with any concerns should contact the district council on 01304 872199.
