A man involved in a collision on the Dover Road at Walmer then had to wait by the roadside for nine hours until his vehicle was recovered.

Only then – after a good samaritan supplied him with a warm drink – did he decide to go to hospital with back pains.

And now there are calls for traffic action at the junction to put an end to accidents there.

Police were called at 6.40am on Monday after a Transit van was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Insignia.

The car was shunted into a brick wall on the other side of the A258 by the crash as the van apparently pulled out of Granville Road.

An off-duty police officer was able to help until his colleagues arrived. The Transit was removed at 8.12am.

Car driver Bob Kenny, an ex-soldier, of Mill Road, Deal, took to Facebook to update his family.

He said: “[The] van was recovered by [the] police because it was blocking the road.

“I’m on the path [so] they’ve left it to my insurers to sort.”

His step-daughter, Jenny Rowe, of Deal, also described the situation on Facebook. She added: “He wasn’t speeding, he is a very good driver. He has spent 22 years driving for the Army.”

Mr Kenny waited by the roadside until 3.40pm, when his vehicle was eventually recovered.

Phillip Moore, who lives in Dover Road close to the junction, supplied Mr Kenny with a warm drink during his long wait.

Mr Moore said: “This is a regular occurrence at this junction, especially with the garage there.
