The woman who was seriously injured in the accident at Frith Road, Dover, has asked the Mercury to pass on her thanks to everyone who has sent her get well cards and messages of support.
Karen Gillham was airlifted to hospital after she was one of four pedestrians hit by a car at the junction with Avenue Road on Sunday, August 1, as she walked to church.
The air ambulance landed nearby and flew Mrs Gillham to the Queen’s Hospital in Romford, Essex, where she was admitted to the high dependency unit.
"Fortunately my injuries were not too extreme, so I hope to be out and about as soon as possible after being discharged from hospital.
"I would like to say a special thank you to all the emergency services, especially the firemen and helicopter crew who were involved in transporting me to hospital.
"As of Sunday August 8, I am doing OK. I am still at Queen’s Hospital waiting to be transferred to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital at Margate as soon as a bed becomes available for a person with head injuries.
Police have reported the 18-year-old driver of the car involved in the accident for dangerous driving.
