Walmer lifeboat crew has urged people to check tide times before walking along the beach, after a rescue on Saturday.
Volunteers came to the aid of a couple cut off by the tide between St Margaret’s Bay and Dover, in the ‘D’ Class Lifeboat Duggie Rodbard, just after 3pm.
Two people were attempting to reach St Margaret’s Bay but discovered that their route was blocked by the incoming tide.
They were stranded on a raised chalk outcrop and when located, were found to be uninjured.
They were provided with life jackets.
The helmsman was able to get the boat close to the shore to allow one of the casualties who was a non-swimmer aboard the vessel without having to get out of their depth.
The second casualty was guided out into slightly deeper water where they were recovered.
Helmsman Dave Mitchell said: “It is a good idea to plan journeys such as these, importantly checking tide times as a rising tide can quickly put you in danger.
"Although the couple were able to take refuge on a raised outcrop, the speed of the incoming tide can leave you trapped at the bottom of a sheer cliff face. The area underneath the cliffs can be a dangerous place.
"Historic cliff falls increase the hazardous nature of the route from St Margaret’s to Dover and more recent cliff falls highlight their instability and that there is a present and continual danger.”
