The fire took hold of the two-storey building known as Sea View restaurant and takeaway in Beach Street just after 10am.
Crews in four fire engines and a height vehicle raced to the scene, and put out a fire involving a deep-fat fryer unit in the ground floor cooking area.

They then worked to douse flames that spread to the first floor and ground floor flat roof of the property.
All staff and residents have been accounted for.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said earlier: "Crews wearing breathing apparatus are using a fog spike in the voids and an extraction unit, creating a super-fine misting effect to reduce the temperature and spread of a fire.

"Four fire engines and a height vehicle remain on the scene and Kent Police are also in attendance for traffic control."
Eye witnesses say they saw smoke billowing through the high street which alerted them to the blaze.
Crews were seen venting the property by opening all doors and windows.
They also used a hose reel to spray water over a main vent.
