School pupils take part in world record dance
attempt

They were dancing in the streets at
Dover today when more than 100 pupils from Kent schools took part
in a world record dance attempt.

Linking up with youngsters from all
over the UK and 20 other countries around the world, they were
taking part in the Big Dance Schools Pledge which marked the
arrival of the Olympic flame in Britain.

Pupils from Priory Fields Primary
School in Dover, St John Fisher in Chatham and Canterbury High let
their feet do the talking in front of the Big Screen in Dover’s
Market Square. The event was organised by South East Dance.

The youngsters had been learning some
Olympic-inspired choreography by internationally renowned
choreographer Wayne McGregor with themes and images from different
sports.

It also marked the start of the
seven-week countdown to Big Dance week from July 7 to 15 as part of
London 2012 Festival, the finale of the Cultural Olympiad which is
a series of cultural events celebrating the London 2012 Olympic and
Paralympic Games.
