Deal Town were unable to halt Faversham’s Bulmers Cider Kent League title charge on Tuesday, but manager Derek Hares was still proud of his team’s performance after Josh Davidson's serious leg injury sustained against Sevenoaks three days earlier.

Hares said: "When the players turned up at the ground last (Tuesday) night you could tell they weren’t really looking forward to playing.

"But once the game got underway they were fine and I was pleased with the way we played."

Faversham’s 1-0 win increased their lead at the top of the Bulmers table to 10 points courtesy of a 27th-minute goal from striker Buster Smissen.

Mo Takaloo, Danny Smith and Darren Waring all went close but it
wasn’t to be for Hares’ side who must now focus on what could be a difficult re-match with Sevenoaks on Saturday.

With last Saturday’s game abandoned because of Davidson's broken leg, the sides meet again to try to settle their Umbro Kent Senior Trophy quarter-final tie.

Hares admitted that he hopes Sevenoaks will decide not to play Joe Minter, the player who made the tackle.

He said: "It wouldn’t be fair on the player for a start because he could come in for some stick from the crowd and it could also be difficult for my players.

"But the decision is up to Sevenoaks and I will be saying to my players that they must try to forget what happened last Saturday and just keep calm."
