FLOWERS have been left on the Deal Memorial Bandstand on Walmer Green to mark the 12th year since the bombing of the School of Music. Eleven Royal Marines died in the IRA raid and a service was held in the Garden of Remembrance in the former barracks.

"It was a well supported service," said Lt Col Graham Hoskins, from Kingsdown, a former principal director of music at the School of Music, which closed in 1996. Wreaths and flowers were laid in the Garden of Remembrance, created near the scene of the explosion in 1989.

The Rev Bill Nuttall conducted the service and standards were paraded by ex-Service organisations. Members of the Deal ATC and the Deal Mayor, Cllr Mrs Marlene Burnham, also attended. Capt John Kelly travelled to Deal for the service to represent the Royal Marines.
