A call to develop Deal and Walmer as a green tourism destination will be explored on Tuesday at a meeting organised by the town’s environment group.

Mel Wrigley from the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership will be one of the guest speakers and there will be a chance to find out more about Hawkshill Freedown, an open space of chalk grassland near Walmer Castle.

The biodiversity, wildlife and climate change meeting, organised by Deal With It, will start at 7.30pm at Dealability, 43 Victoria Road, Deal.

Sarah Gleave, the Deal With It meeting organiser, said: "We are very fortunate to be living in an area so rich in its wildlife and biodiversity. It adds massively to our community’s well-being but it is under threat from climate change and our own human impact.

"We have much to learn from the inspirational work that groups and community volunteers like the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership and Hawkshill Freedown do to maintain and foster this important local asset.

"All are welcome to attend on Tuesday to find out more about our rich local biodiversity, how it is being impacted by climate change, and the practical steps we can take to protect it."
