Dover Athletic 1 Salisbury 1

Dover Athletic suffered more frustration at Crabble as they were held 1-1 by Salisbury in Blue Square Bet South on Saturday.

Glen Southam's equaliser brought the Whites level after they had fallen behind late in the first half, but they were unable to force a winner, even after Salisbury went down to 10 late on.

Whites, for whom Ian Simpemba made an impressive debut in defence, struggled for fluency in the first half when chances were at a premium.

Southam did create one opening for Billy Bricknell, who dragged his shot wide, but all too often Whites lacked urgency.

Salisbury's first chance came midway through the first half when an effort from big striker Robbie Matthews was comfortably gathered by home keeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz.

As the half wore on the visitors began to enjoy more possession, but still a goal looked unlikely until three minutes into time added on when Matthews broke clear and poked the ball home despite being under pressure from Tom Wynter (pictured).

Whites made a brighter start to the second half but had an early scare when keeper Jaimez-Ruiz collided with Wynter, but the keeper was able to gather before Salisbury could capitalise.

Wynter had to go off as a result of his injury, to be replaced by Ed Harris, and just before the hour Whites were level as Southam scored from close range. George Purcell found the overlapping Shane Huke and although his shot was saved he fired the ball back in for Southam to score.

Soon after, Purcell had a good chance but fired wide, and as Whites went for a winner, they threw on Donovan Simmonds for Bricknell.

Within minutes the substitute had almost got in on a Phil Starkey cross but although Dover's approach play was often neat, they could not find the final pass.

Purcell fired into the side netting when he had team-mates in support, and although Salisbury were then reduced to 10 after an off-the-ball incident, Whites could not take advantage.

The draw was Dover's seventh at Crabble this season and left them in eighth, four points adrift of Sutton in fifth.
