Dover crashed out of the FA Trophy with a 4-2 defeat after extra-time against Chelmsford at Crabble on Tuesday night.

Whites were leading 2-1 in injury-time, before conceding a soft equaliser and then two more in extra-time against visitors who were down to 10 men after substitute Nicolas Bondon's red card midway through the second half.

Chelmsford striker Jamie Slabber was left unmarked as he thumped home a near-post header to take the game to extra-time.

Whites full-back Tom Wynter received his second yellow card 11 minutes into the extra period and, with both sides now down to 10 men, Chelmsford regained control. City's player-of-the-match Anthony Cook produced a precise cross for Slabber to make it 3-2 and then former Whites striker Donovan Simmonds (pictured) rubbed it in with his second goal five minutes from the end.

Earlier, Whites had gone in front when Calum Willock forced in a low 24th-minute cross from Chris Sessegnon, before Chelmsford deservedly got back on level terms through Simmonds six minutes later. The home side had regained the lead three minutes into the second half when Daryl McMahon chipped in a cross which drifted across City keeper Stuart Searle and into the far corner.

It all looked good for Whites when Welsh was sent of for a professional foul on Willock on 65 minutes, but Dover failed to find the third goal they needed to kill the tie off and paid the penalty.
