Dover Athletic boss Martin Hayes remains positive about his hunt for a striker, despite being turned down by two of non-league football’s brightest stars.

The Whites boss is seeking the final piece in his new-look jigsaw ahead of the new Blue Square Bet South season after adding Rushden midfielder Michael Corcoran and AFC Wimbledon defender Ed Harris to his list of summer acquisitions last week.

Hayes admitted he is "happy with what we’ve done so far" but revealed the frustrations of trying to find a foil for top-scorer Adam Birchall.

Wimbledon striker Delano Sam Yorke has moved to Basingstoke while Newport County’s Giuseppe Sole has returned to former club Woking, despite speaking to Hayes about joining the Whites’ Blue Square Bet South promotion push.

Hayes (pictured) said: "They didn’t want to come because of the travelling, which was disappointing. They would have done well for us.

"There are always players who are willing to travel to play and we have to look for them."

He added: "A few of those I’ve spoken to find it hard to travel down here for training and games. It’s the biggest problem we face. It is always a disadvantage for us compared to other clubs.

"We have got two or three irons in the fire and are still exploring other avenues. We’re still talking, we’re not in any rush. I want the right person, I’m not going to sign just anyone."
