A Dover man charged with making a bomb threat on a plane that was about to take off from Heathrow Airport has been released on bail.

Ronald Fowles, 58, of Edred Road, is also accused of being drunk on the Dubai-bound flight on Friday night, January 8.

When he originally appeared before Westminster Magistrates he was remanded in custody. But on Monday he was granted bail.

A second man, 48-year-old Alexander McGinn, of Lowther Road, Dover, was charged with being drunk on an aircraft and was released on bail. He is due before the court this week..

The arrests took place after the crew on board flight EK004 contacted police as the plane was preparing to take off.

As a result, armed police officers boarded the aircraft and detained three passengers.
