Firefighters attended a diesel leak in Dover in the early hours of this morning, after a driver crashed into a number of parked cars and fled the scene.
Crews from Deal and police were called to Lewisham Road at around 4.15am.
A car had collided with a number of parked vehicles and it was reported the driver had abandoned his vehicle and left the scene.
Crew manager Dan Yates said: “Where he had hit one of the vehicles, it had ruptured the fuel tank. Diesel fuel was leaking from the tank onto the road.
“Part of our duty as firefighters is to minimise any environmental damage.
“Using our environment protection kit, we used absorbent pads to mop up and contain the liquid, and sand and soil, as well as a bucket underneath, until the removal company arrived.”
They left the scene around 45 minutes later.
Police say inquiries to locate the driver are ongoing.
Firefighters from Dover had not been able to attend the scene as they were already present at a road traffic collision in Churchill Avenue in Folkestone, where two men were cut from a car before taken to hospital.
