Driver ‘asleep at the wheel’ arrested in Cross Road, Walmer, near Deal

A driver police discovered asleep behind the wheel was arrested after failing a roadside drugs test.

Patrols were called to Cross Road in Walmer, near Deal on Saturday evening where they discovered the dozing motorist.

Roadside tests for drugs were conducted, which the driver failed and led to his arrest.

A police spokesman said: “A Kent Police patrol arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of drug driving in Cross Road, Deal at 7.15pm on Saturday

“He has since been bailed pending further inquiries.”

Police posted about the incident over the weekend on one of its local accounts X accounts (formerly Twitter).

“Dover Local Policing Team 5 were called to a driver asleep at the wheel in Deal,” the public message says.

“Roadside tests were conducted which the driver failed.

“The driver was arrested and taken to custody.”
