Tributes have been made to a former district councillor and Deal businessman who has died after suffering a fall.
Clive Boreham, 71, represented Deal on the district council in the 1980s and 90s and was an active member of the Labour Party.
He was born in 1949 in London and in 1959 he moved to Adelaide, Australia under the £10 emigration scheme with parents Edward and Dorothy and sisters Sally and Claire.
The family returned to England in 1966 and settled in Crayford when he was 17. His parents returned to Deal having met in the town during the Second World War as serving Royal Navy and WRENS personnel. In 1973 Mr Boreham followed them to work in their motorbike and cycle shop in West Street.
He later took over the business and set up in Minters Industrial Estate.
During that time he was a keen water polo player and he played for Thanet.
In his 40s he developed Parkinson's, and gave up running his own business to go and work at Dover Castle, which he loved.
He was married to Julie for 48 years and they had two daughters, Samantha and Emily.
Mrs Boreham said throughout his illness her husband was determined to not let the Parkinson's beat him and his wonderful sense of humour always shone through. For many years after his diagnosis he remained a keen gardener and a member of Deal Camera Club. He had also enjoyed sea fishing.
Pre-lockdown he used to attend a dementia group at Age Concern at The Deal Centre in Park Street.
Mrs Boreham said: "Clive was a good father and was always hard working, taking pride in his work.
"He enjoyed quizzes and impressed everyone with his fountain of general knowledge."
He was remembered as a gentleman by former Labour councillor Mike Eddy who added: "Clive had an intelligent understanding of problems and how to solve them. It was a great shame that illness took him out of politics."
Mr Boreham had a fall on Gilford Road near Deal Castle on Thursday, March 4. His wife said she would like to thank everyone for their kindness in coming to his rescue.
Sadly a few days after the fall he died in William Harvey Hospital ICU, where he received what she described as "compassionate and expert care".
