Heartfelt thanks have been given to families and friends who helped a charity Christmas lights switch-on event raise £550.
Stephanie Curry and her family decided to decorate her uncle’s home in festive lights and stage a family fun day on Saturday.
The fundraiser was in aid of Bliss, the charity whose research saved the life of Miss Curry’s seven-month-old daughter Gracie when she was born with complications.
At just a few hours old, Gracie was placed in a cooling suit at the William Harvey Hospital – a pilot study that undoubtedly kept her alive.
Miss Curry, 26, said: “I want to thank all the people who came, and my mum and dad Angie and Lee, and my sister Samantha.”
The event was held at the Elizabeth Carter Avenue, Deal, home of her uncle Dean Mossop and his partner Becky Loftus.
The couple have supported various charities by accepting donations from their impressive Christmas lights displays in recent years, including the British Heart Foundation last year.
Miss Curry said: “It was very busy. Quite a few people were there for the light switch-on – some had waited around for an hour, which we appreciated.
“The children loved it – especially when they saw Santa.”
Mickey and Minnie Mouse paid a visit, and the back garden was decked out in typical grotto style while mince pies and hot drinks were served.
Generous business people donated gifts for the raffle including a ride in a DeLorean – the Back to the Future car – a limo ride, and a large fruit and vegetable hamper.
Miss Curry said: “We’re grateful to the people who donated and to the electrician who helped out, Jacob Townend. We raised £550 but since then we have raised another £40.”
The lights can be seen for free at 9 Elizabeth Carter Avenue until January 2 but donations to Bliss are welcome.
People can knock on the door to make their donations, or pledge money on Stephanie’s secure online fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/
