A day of celebrations marked the 55 year history of Walmer Science College - formerly Walmer School - when it closed on Friday.

Despite a keenly fought battle to keep it open by some parents and pupils, the school has shut in a bid to amalgamate with Castle Community College in September.

School trips, stage shows, lessons, the swimming pool, sporting successes and scores of teachers were remembered in displays throughout the school on the last afternoon.

Former staff members paid a visit for the reunion and ex-pupils walked through the front doors for the last time to see a special show, called Through the Decades.
