Four fire engines were called to a blaze at a derelict building along the seafront in Deal.
Crews arrived at The Regent in Victoria Parade just before 5pm after smoke was seen issuing from the building.
A height vehicle was also requested however this was not needed.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the premises as the 999 call suggested people may be inside.
Once inside crews found a small fire which they put out with a high-pressure hose before clearing smoke and fumes with a large fan.
Nobody was injured and the cause will be investigated by police as firefighters suspect it was started deliberately.
The striking building along the seafront has been derelict for a number of years but used to be a cinema before becoming a bingo hall.
