A man has been treated by paramedics after a fire ripped through a house in Deal.

Around 20 firefighters were needed to tackle the flames after the blaze broke out at the property in Mill Road shortly after 10pm yesterday.

Three fire engine and a height vehicle were sent to the scene along with a Kent Fire and Rescue Service Volunteer Response Team and a Red Cross support vehicle.

The fire had broken through into the roof space of the property and crews wearing breathing apparatus used two main jets and a fog spike to tackle the flames.

They also had to remove roof tiles to gain access and damp down hotspots.

The road was closed while emergency services were at the scene and possessions were recovered from adjoining properties.

South East Coast Ambulance staff treated one man who was suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.

It is not known yet how the fire started.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: "Police were notified of a house fire at 10.35pm on Saturday, 22 December 2018. The fire is not being treated as suspicious."
