A COMPANY from Deal has played a starring role in a film which has been hailed as "brilliant." Jacetts, in Hope Road, was asked to make the kits for the football teams in the comedy Bend It Like Beckham.

The firm's managing director, John Trickey, said: "We were very proud to be asked. They needed a company who could complete the order in two weeks and they found us on the Internet.

"The production company wanted girls' football shirts done very quickly to a specific design. I haven't seen the film yet, but people say it is brilliant."

The company quickly turned out 34 shirts, 30 shorts and two goalkeeper kits.

Bend It Like Beckham is the story of a young Asian girl who fights against her traditions and culture to join the local football team, the Hounslow Harriers. The film is showing from on Friday (May 3) at Flicks in Deal.
