Funeral date set for former mayor of Deal, Deryck Murray at St Andrew's Church

Respects will be paid to former Deal mayor Deryck Murray at his funeral in St Andrew’s Church in West Street on Monday, February 29.

The one time Labour councillor, who defected and stood for the Liberal Democrats at May’s general election, died in January while on holiday in Thailand.

The funeral arrangements are being dealt with by J Dilnot Smith & Son, Gladstone Road, Deal.

They confirmed that all friends and relatives are welcome to attend the church service, which starts at 1pm.

Afterwards there will be a private committal for Mr Murray’s family and close friends.

Chairman of Deal and Walmer Handelian Choral Society, Dianna Hagerty, said its spring concert will be dedicated to his memory.

She said: “I would like to add our condolences to his family and other groups and individuals in Deal with whom he was associated.

“He was patron and an enthusiastic supporter of our choir for many years.”
