Judith Carlisle, head teacher at Dover Grammar School for Girls has resigned and will leave at the end of the calendar year.

The school leader has accepted a position as headmistress at Oxford High School, an independent school.

She said: "I will miss the school greatly.

"There is a fantastic team of staff to work with and very supportive parents and lively pupils."

Mrs Carlisle came to Dover, and grammar education, having worked in mixed comprehensive schools, some inner city.

She recognises there will be challenges at the new school which is larger, with about 900 pupils ranging from age three to 19. But she insists the transition from DGSG will be smooth, leaving a "stable school".

During Mrs Carlisle’s headship, GCSE and A-level results have continued to improve year on year which she attributes to creating a "busy school" which, she says, has increased aspiration and provided pupils with the bigger picture.

A new head teacher will be sought in the coming months.
