There were trumpets, flutes, drums and lots of dancing took over the Deal Memorial Bandstand when the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas performed.

Crowds gathered around the bandstand on the beautiful sunny day to hear the songs and even brought their own picnics.

Bill Butler, vice-chairman of Deal Bandstand Trust, said: “It was a glorious Sunday morning on the band stand stage which always signals a great day and this Sunday was no exception with great performances from the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas.

“A crowd in excess of 2,500 enjoyed a lively concert which involved songs and classic Gurkha dancing from the members of the band.”

Classic Gurkha dancing was particularly interesting, with plants and flowers, bows and arrows, they danced around the bandstand stage while the rest of the members played.

The chairman of the bandstand trust, John Perkins said: “I am very grateful for the support of the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas in helping us to ensure the day was very successful.”

The Gurkhas are all musicians who undertook their training at the Royal Military School of Music and were then selected for the band.

They’re based at Shorncliffe, Folkestone, and have toured many parts of the world for both military and public events as well as performing at Deal Memorial Bandstand for the last two years.

There was also a raffle held on the day and one prize is yet to be claimed.

The person with a white, number 40 ticket, can claim their prize from the bandstand this weekend.
