A delicious Thomas the Tank Engine cake helped blind toddler Freddie Penny celebrate his second birthday this week as offers to help restore his sight continue to flood in.
Deal Ice Breakers, organisers of the annual Boxing Day Dip, and Rotary Club of Deal have already pledged their support to the appeal for the toddler.
This week, roving dining club Run Ashore has announced it will be hosting a Halloween event to help his mum Robyn Gough, 23, raise the £25,000 she needs to take him to Thailand where stem cell therapy could restore his sight.
Freddie has septo-optic dysplasia. The condition means his optic nerves are undeveloped, causing blindness.
It is hoped a 14-day therapy course at the Unique Access Hospital in Bangkok could allow him to finally see the world.
Miss Gough, who has already raised more than £3,000, said: “I’ve had so many people contacting me wanting to do their bit and help Freddie, even strangers.
“Freddie is too young to understand what is going on but when he is old enough I will definitely tell him about all the kind and loving people that he’s surrounded by that are supporting him.
“I can’t thank everyone enough. It means the world to myself and Freddie.”
Run Ashore’s Halloween party will be at The Courtyard in Sondes Road, Deal, at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 27.
It will feature the Blues Brothers who will sing all the numbers from the original act plus more. Guests can wear Halloween attire if they wish.
Tickets cost £10 and are available by emailing admin@runashore.co.uk
Freddie turned two on Monday and celebrated with a party, attended by family and friends, at East Studdal Village Hall the day before.
