Hardy souls take to the sea on Boxing Day

Freezing conditions didn’t deter a large number of people from taking part in the Boxing Day dip at Dover harbour.

But organisers imposed a two-minute time limit on anyone staying in the water, and lifeguards were on hand to make sure no one got into difficulties.

While most were in the water for a very short time, others made the most of the time allowed before returning to the beach – and warm towels and hot drinks.

Some of those taking part were in fancy dress – including veteran dipper Vic Matcham – and some were raising money for good causes.

Hannah and Harriet Crowley, Jessica and Thomas Dowle and Becky Skelton were taking part for the second year, raising funds for the Life for Laura charity.

Members of the Dover Water Polo team were hoping to raise more interest in their sport. They meet at Dover Leisure Centre on Thursday evenings and Sundays and play in the Kent League and a winter league. They would welcome more members.
