Hundreds of kites filled the sky above Walmer Green on Saturday as Walmer Parish Council held its Kites on the Beach event.
Giant fish, dragons and bunnies could be seen from as far as Deal Pier and Upper Walmer while children’s kites filled the lower skies.
One hundred and fifty kites had been made up in advance by Walmer Parish Councillors and were given away to children. Another fifty were made up by the children.
Cllr Pat Heath, chairman of Walmer Parish Council, said, “It was such a joyful sight to see so many children enjoying the simple pleasure of kite flying with their families.
Thanks must go to our friends at Kent Kite Flyers for providing the static kites which provided such a great display and drew people in from miles around.
The beautiful weather ensured that people made a day of it and lingered to enjoy ice-cream and picnics while enjoying the great atmosphere.”
Malcolm Ford of Kent Kite Flyers says, “Walmer Green offers the perfect location for kite flying with lots of open space and beautiful views along the Strand and out across the English Channel.
“The weather was perfect and ensured a successful event which was enjoyed by club members and local residents alike. We hope to be invited back in the future”.
