Letters are on their way to the Prime Minister and a Secretary of State from campaigners at Sholden Parish Council who refuse to give up the fight to stop housing developments in the village.

Deal MP Charlie Elphicke is backing the move and Deal Town Council has also written to Eric Pickles.

In the letter to David Cameron, parish council clerk Mary Shaw said the parish and town councils, Sholden Action Group, local people and Mr Elphicke fought long and hard to halt the developers.

She added: "They will double the size of the village of Sholden and open the floodgates for development on more of our green fields."

The clerk also wrote about the dramatic change in the economic climate of the area since the closure of Pfizer at Sandwich.

In its letter to the Prime Minister, Sholden Parish Council enclosed its letter to Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communications and Local Government, asking for him to use his powers to "call in" the two applications for Sholden, which won planning permission in December.
