The district council has approved plans to develop the Western Heights and Farthingloe with houses, a hotel, conference centre and other facilities. But objectors maintain their opposition and the Secretary of State may have the final say.

Dover's new police chief Steve Barlow says his officers will target problems in the town including those caused by drunks and drug addicts, following a tirade of complaints on social media site Facebook.
