A record 115 Christmas trees will decorate shop fronts in and around Deal High Street this year.
The traditional spruces are in addition to the town’s lights, both organised by Deal and Walmer Chamber of Trade.
The lights will be put up by volunteers this weekend ahead of the big switch-on, planned for Friday, November 18.
The trees will be dressed by Scouts and installed over the next two weeks. Some extras may be added after the light switch-on due to high demand.
Secretary Peter Davies said: “A record-breaking 92 business have so far signed up for trees this year and some of them are having two or three.
“All of the small businesses are lighting up the town, and we’re still trying to persuade some of the bigger businesses who need permission.
“A special mention must go to the people in the South Street quarter as they have 18 businesses supporting us with trees.
“It’s a massive step up from last year when we had only 78.”
Starbucks and Costa are among the coffee shops, M&S and Wetherspoon are also supporting the drive.
The annual auction will fund this on Friday, November 11 at Deal Angling Club.
Lots include a luxury meal for two donated by Dunkerley’s and a one night stay with breakfast for two was given by The Royal Hotel. There is also a quality bicycle donated by Mike’s Bikes and cream tea for four people donated by Little Harriett’s up for grabs.
Mr Davies said: “We really want to get 150 people in the hall and fill it this year.
“Money raised from this auction, along with the stranger in the window competition we run, sponsorship and membership, helps pay for the Christmas lights.
“They cost in excess of £4,000 every year.”
The auction starts at 7.30pm and it is open to all.
Since joining as secretary about a year ago, Mr Davies has managed to almost double the chamber’s membership.
In 2017, he hopes to extend the lighting and trees to Walmer and the Mill Hill area.
