Footage of a punter necking a yard of ale in one attempt has gone viral with more than 1.2 million views.
Richard Norris, a regular at Finglesham’s Crown Inn near Deal, guzzled the two-and-a-half-pint pitcher on Christmas Day in front of stunned onlookers.
Landlords who shot the eye-watering feat amassed the views alongside 1,600 comments and 734 shares on Facebook in less than a week.
Husband and wife team Amy and Dave Beaney, who took over the drink hole 14 months ago, say they have never seen a customer complete the feat.
Mr Beaney said: “On Christmas day we give out a free drink to everyone.
“Richard is one of the regulars and fancied taking on the challenge.
“There are some questions in the comments over if he completed it correctly. But there is a constant flow so I think he did.
“Richard was already four pints deep and did it in a white shirt - I think he did brilliantly.”
But others claimed they could down a yard in “much quicker time” and took issue with Mr Norris’ technique, who finished the drink in two minutes.
Colin Edwards said: “Took his time. I used to do a yard in under 30 seconds.”
Matt Gardener quipped: “Hats off, he got it done.
“Might be the slowest I’ve seen, but got it done!”
Kevin Morris added: “I did a yard of ale while a student at Keele University in 17 seconds. I wouldn't attempt it now!”
Mr Beaney, 35, says he and his wife were left “overwhelmed” by the reaction and their Facebook following has risen since the clip was posted.
“I think it's brilliant that an off-the-cuff video can go viral as this one did,” he said.
“We have gained over 600 followers on our Facebook page since the clip went out.”
In June, the pub owners submitted a bid to build holiday lets in their garden to “keep the business sustainable”.
They previously told KentOnline, that they have had a “difficult time” trying to keep the pub viable with rising bills and supply costs despite working hard.
Once the caravans are in place the owners hope to hire three more staff members.
