Bringing her passion and flair for fundraising to a new charity, Kerry Rubins has been recruited by Martha Trust.
The 42-year-old of Cowdray Square, Deal, started her new role as fundraising and events officer on Tuesday, January 6.
She said: “I’m really excited to be a part of this charity. I’m working with a small team and everyone has made me feel so welcome.
“Meeting some of the residents on the first day and the staff that care for them really enhanced the passion I already felt for wanting to work for this fabulous local charity. I saw what a difference fundraising makes to their lives.”
Martha Trust provides residential, respite care and day care for people with profound physical and multiple learning disabilities. The charity has three homes; two in Sandwich and one in Hastings.
Miss Rubins will work four days a week from offices in Victoria Road in Deal and one day a week in Hastings in order to start building connections there.
She said: “Many people will know I’m a voluntary ambassador for Breast Cancer Now which is a national charity, so I knew it wouldn’t conflict with a local charity. I know my skills and contacts will only enhance what I can bring to the role.”
Miss Rubins is already working on a string of events for Martha Trust. They include the Sandwich Prom at the Salutation Gardens with Steph and Dom Parker from Gogglebox on July 17, golf days, KM events and the annual Christmas Fair.
But her first event will be a German music night from 7.30pm until 11.30pm on Saturday, March 12 in Whitfield Village Hall.
Bavarian-style Oompah Band The Bettesteiner Footstompers, who have featured on The Alan Titchmarch Show, will provide the entertainment.
Tickets cost £25 each and include a peach Schnapps on arrival, all your drink – beer, wine and soft drinks, a bratwurst sausage and live music.
Director of operations and marketing Julie Gayler said: “As a small charity supporting people with profound disabilities, Martha Trust relies on fundraising income to provide the extras that make life more rewarding and enjoyable for our residents, including cinema and theatre trips, sailing, therapies, parties and lots more.
“We are therefore delighted that Kerry has joined the team, bringing with her a wealth of fundraising experience, and look forward to a successful 2016.”
