A new Children’s Festival is to take place on Saturday, June 8.
Building on the success of Kites on the Beach held by Walmer Parish Council with Kent Kite Flyers for the last three years, the event will offer a host of free activities for children.
Parish council chairman Cllr Sue Le Chevalier said: “Kites on the Beach was so well attended and so much enjoyed by local families that we saw the scope to develop more activities.
"We will still have kites available to borrow and the giant kites will be on display as usual.
"Additionally, there will be a circus workshop and a face-painter.
"A children’s fair ground will offer rides to younger children for a small charge and Deal Air Cadets will be bringing their fantastic new flight simulator to interest the over 12s.”
Little Gulls Beach and Forest School will once again be running a kite making workshop and Little Artists will be providing outdoor themed arts and crafts as well as songs and story time.
Staff from the Children’s Centre will be making fish with the younger children.
Cllr Marguerite Beard-Gould, Chairman of the Events Committee invites everyone to come and take a look.
“Caterers will be selling pizza, coffee, ice-cream and sweets or bring a picnic and make an afternoon of it!
"The Festival will run from noon until 4pm at the southern end of Walmer Green, adjacent to the Sailing Club, subject to weather conditions.
Car parking will be available on the Green and can be accessed via the entrance opposite Cambridge Road.”
Malcolm Ford of Kent Kite Flyers said: “Local people might recognise us from previous visits.
"Members have flown illuminated kites on the Green on several past November evenings to raise money for Children in Need.
"Walmer Green offers the perfect location for kite flying with lots of open space and beautiful views along the Strand and out across the English Channel.”
Kites will also be available to buy.
