Tent is in sea causes first Christmas Day callout for Walmer RNLI, in more than 40 years.

The Walmer lifeboat was called out on Christmas Day for the first time in more than 40 years.

And thankfully there were no casualties reported in this incident.

The crews was called at exactly 9.11am to reports of a tents, believed to be attached to a raft, drifting north at four knots.

The lifeboat was soon alongside the tent, which was empty and with no signs of any belongings, confirming it had blown off the beach.

After recovering the object the crew undertook a shoreline search to check if any fisherman had lost their tent.

Walmer RNLI operations manager Denis Brophy said: “I believe this was our first call out on Christmas Day for more than 40 years.”
