It was launched in early August at the same time as the county council started its consultation into its proposals to slash its budget for youth services.

Labour Party members have been organising Save Our Linwood campaign and discovered many people in town have fond memories of the Mill Road club, opposite Victoria Park, Deal.

Cllr Pam Hawkins, a member of Deal Town Council and the district council, said: "Nick Atkins was keen to support the campaign.

"He told us he attended Linwood regularly and has happy memories of his time at the centre when Mike Linnane, known as Skip, was in charge.

"For many years Linwood has been an important part of growing up for a great many of Deal's young people. It has been a reliable base for many and also a much appreciated place where advice and guidance has always been available when required."

Cllr Hawkins said many people who signed the Save Our Linwood petition spoke about the city riots last month and emphasised the importance of youth centres.
