Dover Athletic strengthened their grip on a Blue Square Bet South play-off place with a win at Maidenhead on Tuesday.

Third-placed Dover made it 16 points from a possible 18 under Chris Kinnear on a night when second-placed Salisbury City went down 2-0 at Basingstoke and fourth-placed Chelmsford City lost 3-0 at Weston-Super-Mare.

Whites secured the points thanks to goals from Ben May, his 15th of the league campaign, and Barry Cogan (pictured).

Kinnear brought in Billy Bricknell for Moses Ademola in the only change and May fired the opener on the turn inside the box on 16 minutes to give the visitors the edge in an otherwise quiet first half.

It was 2-0 when Cogan's drive from 25 yards squirmed under the goalkeeper's dive and into the net on 69 minutes although the hosts pulled one back from close range 17 minutes from time.

With 11 games remaining Whites are six points clear of sixth-placed Weston but with a game in hand.
