Man charged after spate of thefts of and from cars in Walmer and Sholden, Deal

Two men were arrested after a three-day spate of thefts of and from cars.

A number of vehicles were stolen or moved in the Walmer and Sholden areas, near Deal, and some had items taken from inside.

The incidents were reported to police between Sunday, November 17, and Tuesday, November 19.

Two men were arrested by investigating officers on Tuesday.

Mitchell Gent, 26, has since been charged with theft of a motor vehicle in relation to a Volkswagen and an Audi stolen between Sunday and Monday.

He is also charged with theft from a motor vehicle relating to two incidents on Monday and vehicle interference on the same day.

Gent, of Freemen's Way, Deal, appeared before Thanet Magistrates' Court yesterday (Wednesday) and was remanded in custody to appear again on Wednesday, December 11

The second man arrested as part of the investigation has been bailed pending further enquiries.

A police spokesperson said: “Motorists are advised to ensure their cars are locked, parked in well-lit areas covered by CCTV where possible, and not to leave anything in vehicles, particularly not to leave anything on show.”
