Man in court charged with murdering his mother

A man accused of murdering his mother has appeared in court.

Gary Sturt, 30, was remanded in custody at Canterbury Crown Court today accused of killing Annette Sturt.

The 49-year-old was found strangled to death at her house in Guston, near Dover.

Police were called to the terraced property, in Prescott Close, on the evening of Sunday, May 20.

Gary Sturt, of Clarendon Street, Dover, was arrested that night and later charged with murder.

He said nothing during his first briefappearance at Canterbury Crown Court today.

Sturt is due to enter a plea at the same court on Friday, August 24. A provisional trial date has been set for Monday, November 12.

Judge Adele Williams remanded Sturt in custody.
