A Deal man who stabbed a good Samaritan has been jailed for 20 years.
Ryan Bailey, 38, of Glack Road, Deal, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court in London on Friday, August 19.
During the evening of Sunday, August 30 last year, a man aged in his 40s called up to the window of a property in Walmer after hearing Bailey assaulting someone.
Bailey appeared at the window and threatened to stab the man if he tried to enter the flat.
Despite the victim’s reassurances that he wouldn’t, Bailey then left the flat and approached him, stabbing him several times.
Kent Police officers who were driving past saw the attack and stopped to intervene.
Bailey ran away, leaving the man with serious injuries, but was found just over an hour later by officers.
At court Bailey was found guilty of one charge of grievous bodily harm and a further count of assault by beating.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Carl Evans said: "Bailey is an extremely violent individual who assaulted two people in one day, one of which was a senseless and bloodied attack on a good Samaritan who had only tried to step in to diffuse the situation.
"The man survived the attack, but had police not intervened, the outcome could have been different.
"I hope this lengthy sentence makes Bailey face up to his actions and realise just how serious the consequences are, for him and his victims."
