Police are appealing for information following a spate of car vandalism in Deal.

Vehicles parked in Thornbridge Road, Forelands Square, Telegraph Road and Cavell Square had their tyres damaged overnight between 4pm on Wednesday, May 6, and 11am the following day.

In some instances, the paintwork was also scratched.

A further report was made regarding damage caused to a car parked in Dover Road, Walmer, during the same timeframe.

Walmer councillor Chris Vinson estimates more than 15 incidents have happened in the past few weeks.

He said: "In addition to this I understand there have been at least two other incidents - including one in North Deal, and one in the car park of Deal Victoria hospital.

"Several key workers have had their cars vandalised - tyres slashed, panels keyed, and even windows broken. Absolutely disgraceful given the current pandemic."

Using GoogleMaps he has compiled a map identifying all the incidents that have been brought to his attention.

Kent Police have been asked whether all these alleged incidents have been reported to them and if the force believes all incidents are connected.

Cllr Vinson added: "This mindless vandalism is absolutely disgraceful, and the thoughtless actions of whoever's responsible have caused thousands of pounds of damage - putting key workers' cars and vans out of action when we need them most.

"I am reassured that police have recognised the scale of the problem and are properly investigating. The perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice. Lockdown is no excuse for criminal vandalism."

Officers, who are carrying out extra patrols in the areas, are investigating the reports and working to identify potential lines of enquiry to progress.

Sergeant Ben Norbury from Dover Community Safety Unit said: "We are appealing for anyone who lives in those streets mentioned and saw anything suspicious or has CCTV to come forward as you may be able to assist with the investigation.

"Anyone who believes their vehicle may have been damaged but has not yet reported it to us, is urged to call Kent Police on 101 or report it via our website so details can be taken."
