Dover boss Martin Hayes felt the 2-2 draw with Welling on Tuesday night was a fair result.
The first Kent derby of the season in Blue Square Bet South ended all square at Crabble.
Hayes (pictured) said: "After a good result and the high of (winning at Woking on) Saturday, it was about trying to keep people focused.
"We started well and could have scored a few more but we didn't capitalise on those chances and paid the price. Their goal changed the game and we lost our way a bit."
While questioning his side's defending for the first goal, Hayes was impressed by some of Welling's forward play.
"All of these sides have players that can change a game in a minute," said Hayes. "Welling played some attacking football and have got players that can hurt sides. I'm sure they'll take lots of points off teams this year.
"The first goal (we conceded) was poor play, we didn't track our runners and too many people went to ground."
With the home crowd behind them, Hayes was hoping that his team would have gone on and taken all three points once Adam Birchall equalised in the 78th minute.
He said: "I thought we might have gone on and sneaked something, with the free-kick at the end and the throws going in their box.
"But I can't complain. It probably would have been two more points than we deserved as a draw was a fair result. We're going to play better than that and lose, and we're going to play worse than that and win."
