A Gran from Deal has been making fabric masks to raise crucial funds for local charity Martha Trust and has raised over £1500 so far and is still receiving orders.
Pat Wilson, 64, is no stranger to supporting the charity, after having embarked on two car challenges to Rome and Monte Carlo from 2016 and raising in excess of £13k with her friend Jill Burford.
Pat started making the masks when the coronavirus hit, initially for neighbours and friends in the street she lives in however as more people were asking for the masks and wanting to donate, she saw it as a perfect opportunity to raise money for the charity that is close to her heart.
Pat says “ In these challenging times, many of Martha's own fundraising activities are on hold and small charities like Martha are suffering so much due to COVID19 so this was a win, win, win situation : a win for the charity through the fundraising, a win for people receiving masks to help them feel more safe and a win for me as it keeps me busy during lockdown whilst supporting Martha at the same time! I am indebted to Mary Finn of Blind Illusions for gifting all the lining.”
I have been blown away by the support – people have been very generous, donating an average of £10 per mask.”
Fundraising and events officer Kerry Banks BEM, says “ Pat has been supporting Martha since 2016 and we feel so incredibly fortunate to have her as one of our long term supporters. Pat has helped to raise huge amounts of money for Martha over the years and her new venture with the masks has been going phenomenally well – we love our masks! The monies raised from Pat’s fundraising will enable our very special residents to enjoy fabulous activities in the homes.”
