A memorial bench will be dedicated to well-known binman and much-loved character in the town Robert Wand.
Funded by donations, the bench will be installed at 3pm on Sunday, June 26, followed by a small dedication ceremony.
Mr Wand, 63, of College Road, died suddenly on January 20, after he collapsed near his home.
He was often seen walking his beloved Jack Russell, Lucy, and was described by his friends as a man with old-school values who loved his job.
Residents recalled seeing Mr Wand around the town, saying he brightened many people’s days.
The bench will be installed along the seafront opposite 199 Beach Street, between the two art deco sea shelters.
Tony Wickenden, administrator of facebook community page Deal Watch, arranged for the bench to become a reality after residents pledged their support.
He said: “Family, friends, generous donors and those that would like to pay their respects to Rob are all welcome.
“The vicar who conducted his funeral, Rev Christopher Dent, has agreed to say a few words to dedicate and bless the bench.
“I know that some of his friends and colleagues were unable to attend his funeral due to work commitments, so this could be an opportunity to pay your respects.”
Hundreds of pounds towards the bench was pledged just days after the idea was raised on the social media site and a JustGiving page was set up.
In total the bench has cost about £1,500.
The wording on the page said: “Because we want to have a permanent reminder of Robert, when the target is reached, the bench will be ordered immediately.”
Reams of comments were left, showing how many people knew Mr Wand as a friend or acquaintance.
It is understood that the installation of the bench was also part of his family’s wishes.
