Border Force officers at Dover have seized 58 kilos of cocaine and two kilos of heroin said to be worth millions of pounds on the street.

The drugs were discovered on Saturday at the Eastern Docks.

The first seizure was made when officers stopped and searched an Italian-registered lorry carrying empty perfume bottles. Forty eight kilos of cocaine and two kilos of heroin were found in the cab of the lorry.

A further ten kilos of cocaine were discovered within the body work of a Romanian lorry.

Both drivers, a 35-year-old man from Italy and a Romanian man aged 24, were arrested. They and the investigations were passed to the National Crime Agency for further enquiries.

Paul Morgan, Director of Border Force South East and Europe said: “Cocaine and heroin are vile and destructive drugs, which ruin the lives of users and the wider community.

“Border Force officers are on constant alert to keep illegal drugs and other banned substances out of the UK.”
