A young woman has been flown to hospital after a crash between a car and minibus near Dover this morning.

The 22-year-old driver had to be rescued by firefighters after the smash in Alkham Road, Temple Ewell, at about 9.20am.

Fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the silver Vauxhall Corsa to reach her.

The injured woman, from Temple Ewell, was taken to the William Harvey Hospital, in Ashford, by air ambulance.

Kent Police said it is understood that South East Coast Ambulance Service are treating some of the occupants of the minibus.

None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

Two fire crews were at the scene until around 10.45am and police officers shut the road.

Alkham Valley Road was closed between the Round Hill Tunnel and Belsey Lane.

Police warned drivers to avoid the route if possible while a section of the road remained shut until around 12.30pm.
