Miranda Price is celebrating after winning bronze at the European Championships in Maastricht.

It rounded off a great year for the 29-year-old member of SESKA Karate Club in Ashford.

She earned selection for the England squad by winning the kumite category gold medal at the 2008 JKA National Championships while still a brown belt, the first time a brown belt had won a national title in the long history of the championships. She earned her black belt soon afterwards as well as a call-up for the England squad.

In Maastricht, despite suffering a broken nose in one of the earlier rounds, she fought her way through to the semi-finals of the largest tournament in Europe before being knocked out.

Her coach, Sensei Geoff Luker, said: "Miranda is still training hard in Ashford and in the England squad. However, she will miss an international friendly competition with Norway this month due to surgery on her nose."
