A stunning new-look café-bar for Deal Pier, part of a £1.35m transformation for the landmark, has been officially opened by Admiral The Lord Boyce, Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports.

The building features timber frames, edge walls made of glass and a range of environmentally-friendly features.

It was designed by architects Niall McLaughlin and construction was carried out by Dover-based Barwick Construction.

The café-bar is being run by Jasin Kaplan, who owns The Telegraph Chippie in Deal.

Cllr Bernard Butcher, chairman of Dover District Council which owns the pier, invited a range of guests from across the community to attend the official opening on Friday, November 21.

The new café-bar will be open to the public from 8am on Saturday, November 22.

Cllr Nigel Collor, a DDC cabinet member, said: “We are very pleased to see these major improvements coming to fruition with the opening of this stunning new café-bar, which also provides a number of local jobs.

“This work represents a major boost for Deal seafront, for the town and for the district, and will help us all enjoy the full advantages that make the pier area in Deal so attractive to visitors and local people.”
