Dover Athletic manager Nicky Forster was relieved that his side were able to come home with a point from lowly Hampton & Richmond on Tuesday night.
Whites drew 2-2 in Blue Square Bet South through goals by Ian Sempemba and Billy Bricknell after being 2-0 down inside the first 27 minutes following strikes by Reece Jones and Dean Inman, and Forster admitted: "Before the game, which was one of our matches in hand, we were hoping that we could take maximum points.
"But sometimes games against sides who are fighting for their lives don’t work out like that, and certainly in the first-half we weren’t where we should have been.
"Their urgency and desire got them into a 2-0 lead and to come in at half-time at 2-1 in some ways left me pleased because our goal papered over a few cracks.
"But the second-half performance was much better and we might well have gone on to win it if we had equalised a little earlier."
Bricknell struck with his fourth goal in as many games four minutes from time to salvage a point and Forster added: "Billy has found his form at just the right time and is looking dangerous."
Whites’ next two games are also away from home, at Eastleigh on Saturday followed by a trip to Farnborough next Wednesday.
