Nicky Forster says he is not Dover’s "saviour" despite deciding to come out of retirement to play for the Whites next season.
Forster – who turns 39 in September – scored almost 200 Football League goals in a near 20-year career which included spells at Reading, Brighton and Brentford.
He has, however, opted to return to playing in Blue Square Bet South, although he refuted rumours he made the decision after using his budget on Ebbsfleet striker Calum Willock.
Forster (pictured) said: "It is absolute rubbish to suggest that I have been forced to do this because we have overspent or overstretched in any way.
"It’s also not the case that there are not strikers out there – because there are – it’s just that there are some factors like geography and finance which have prevented me from signing some of our targets.
"I thought about it last season but it was not until after the deadline for registering that I realised I should have done it.
"Our problem at times is that we’ve missed that clinical edge. I’m not saying I’m the saviour but I have plenty of experience."
Forster will join Willock, Billy Bricknell and Terry Dixon in the forward ranks.
