Co-owner of the Lane Anna Murray is paying homage to her German roots with a week of Oktoberfest celebrations.
From Monday, October 12 until Saturday, October 17, the cocktail bar and restaurant in Southcourt, Deal, is offering a special Oktoberfest menu at lunchtime and in the evenings as well as hosting a fancy dress party.
Miss Murray and her partner, Chris Vidler, visit Germany a couple of times a year.
She said: “We always go to the Hofbräuhaus. It’s a massive venue where they sell beer in stein glasses, pork knuckles, and have oompa bands.
“We’ve decided that we’d like to bring that to the Lane.”
Traditional German beers such as Lowenbrau will be available in one litre stein glasses.
Dishes on offer will include Schweinhaxe - slow cooked pork knuckle with dumplings, sauerkraut and gravy.
Mr Vidler said: “It’s not for the faint hearted. It’s one big bit of meat.”
Huhner Schnitzel - breaded chicken with sautéed potatoes and Currywurst - bratwurst sausage with curry ketchup and fries, are also on the menu.
There is even a vegetarian option of Pilze Mit Knoblauchsoße - mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauce.
On Saturday, October 17, the staff will be dressing up and are inviting customers to do the same.
Anybody who comes in German fancy dress, be it a German football shirt or lederhosen, will be given a free drink. Entry will be free.
Mr Vidler said: “Oktoberfest is massive in Germany. It’s just an excuse for a celebration.
“If you don’t want to pay for a flight there, come down to the Lane and experience it on your door step!”
